Resolved Question: CPU fan off for a moment -> Loop of automatic switching on&off with few secs interval.?

I applied thermal glue, closed up and booted. The slowness of Win7 loading brought to my mind that I forgot to re-attach the cpu fan to the power source. I immidiately switched off with a long power switch press, attached the cord and tried to boot with no success. After attaching the cord with no other change what so ever, my computer doesn't boot up. It switches on for a few sec, then cuts out the power. After a few secs, approx at the time when the fans arrive to a halt, it automaticly switches on again. This keeps going multiple times and ends with me cutting off the power. The system automaticly cuts off power if cpu temp reaches 127 deg celcius, so I doubt I grilled my cpu... What happened? How do I fix this? C2D E7200 default clocks MSI P35 Neo Antec Earthwatts 430W

Resolved Question: Why is my family being to insensitive?

I was sexually abused by my dad when I was 12-15. He died 2 yrs back. My mom and brother are completely unaware of this and matter of fact, they would never believe that he was capable of something like that. I am unemployed right now. I've started seeking a therapist. The therapist informed me that I am clinically depressed. When I told this to my family...this is what their reaction were - me: I visited a shrink today. he: what?? you didn't even tell us! Look at the attitude. me: she says that i am clinically depressed. he: I fail to understand why you are so keen to think that something is wrong with you and you want to receive our attention me: aren't there quite a few symptoms? he: Oh please! We every have been thru something traumatic (dad's death)...you know what....everyone goes thru such a period! Even I did, when my business failed....but I snapped back and made it a success. You know what....try yoga. me: i don't wanna try yoga....what's wrong with shrink? he: shrinks are useless.....you shd talk to mom/ me:look....there are some things that I can talk to a 3rd person...i can't talk to mom. he: like what? me: I told you....i don't wanna talk about it. mebbe she'd have a better idea of why i am the way i am. he: oh please! I know exactly why u r the way you are....you are lazy. ....and after a cried.....he softened and came up with various theories of my depression. And when I told this to my mom - me: mom....I met a shrink and she says that I'm clinically depressed. mom: so? me: ....just wanted to inform. mom: receive married. you would receive every the happiness that every your probs will be solved. me (frustrated): mom! i don't wanna marry! mom (mad): why did our ancestors arrive up with marriage...this is the right age to marry. mom (softening): try that alpha mind that we look the ads of.... me: ok mom. I went to room and cried and later - mom: look...depression comes from inferiority complex. you are talented....just believe in yourself. I fail to understand why my family is reacting this way and not showing any compassion. I don't want any extraordinary sympathy from them....but their reaction is making me feel even more miserable and confused. My family loves and cares about me...then why are they behaving this way?? Instead of putting me at ease...my family's reaction making my day worse!! Pls tell me how to deal with this situation. I am not earning right now, so I need their support.

Open Question: How will I ever recover from this abortion?

About a month ago I decided to have an abortion. I never thought I would be in this situation. I was on the pill and we used rubbers. I didn't know the antibiotic I was taking was canceling out my birth control and I got pregnant. Me and my boyfriend were really going through it at the time and we decided to have an abortion. I took the pill and told no one about it... I even continued to work 12hr days while I passes the baby... I was so made at myself and disgusted that I didn't tell my sister or my closest pal. I held it inside, worried about being judged. I was aching on the inside but couldnt drop one tear. Finally I told my sister and pal... and ever since I have been every tears. Me and my boyfriend are closer than ever, but I am so hurt by the situation that every I can do is sob. I even bought a baby outfit at the store, and hung it in my closet. Three people I know are having babies and it's killing me on the inside even though Im every smiles on the outside. It kills me to know sick never brush her hair, give her baths, hear her giggle, or ever look her face. I find myself broken down with tears every alone. My boyfriend is really hurt about it too... I just don't know if sick ever heal. I want to be a mom so bad... but just on different circumstances. Someone help me... because I was on the road to success and now every I want to do is lay in bed and sob... wasting the days away...

Open Question: How to get success and be success-full in life; especially now; when you know the following.?

What is it that one should do to gain success and be successfull; in the light of the following. It’s pushy mums who steer sons to success Daily Mail BEHIND every great man, there is a lady. But it’s far more likely to be his pushy mom than his partner driving him on, according to scientists. The finding will ring true for men who have been egged on to do better in life by their domineering mothers. Men could even owe their sexual triumphs to the support of their mothers. In climbing the ladder of success, it is the men who have their mothers backing them from the sidelines who do better, a study suggests. German scientists drew the conclusions after observing bonobo communities. As with humans, successful male bonobos are more attractive to females, they found. But to be successful male apes have to rise through their community hierarchy, which can involve winning battles with higher- ranking males. This is done either individually or by forming a ‘ coalition’ to look off a more dominant rival. The males who won these battles were more likely to be the ones who were backed from the wings by pushy mothers, experts at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology found. .

Open Question: There are two hospitals named Mercy and Hope in your town. You must choose one of these in which to undergo an?

There are two hospitals named Mercy and wish in your town. You must pick one of these in which to undergo an operation. You decide to base your decision on the success of their surgical teams. Fortunately, below the new health plan, the hospitals give data on the success of their operations, broken down into five broad categories of operations. Suppose you receive the following data for the two hospitals: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mercy Hospital Type A B C D E every Operations 359 1836 299 2086 149 4729 Successful 292 1449 179 434 13 2366 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- wish Hospital Type A B C D E every Operations 88 514 222 86 45 955 Successful 70 391 113 12 2 588 You notice that, in every types of operations, Mercy has a higher success rate than wish, yet wish has the highest overall success rate. Which hospital would you pick and why (pick two answers)? 1 Mercy; this is an example of Simpson's paradox and we should always chose the opposite of the "obvious" conclusion. wish; this is an example of Simpson's paradox and we should always chose the "obvious" conclusion. Mercy; since I would go in for a specific operation, I want the hospital that has the best success rate for that operation. Mercy; looking at column E, Mercy clearly does more difficult surgies and so is probably a better hospital. wish; since they do fewer operations in every categories, they are not "operation-glad" like Mercy. wish; it has the better overall success rate.

Open Question: How is god not evil for being so discriminant toward people he created?

If god threatens to send people to hell if they don't believe in them, isn't that bad? If he in fact creates everybody himself and not through evolution, and he made someone without the ability to think or have an opportunity to believe in god, wouldn't that be bad to just predestine someone to an eternal life of misery? I haven't yet heard a sensible reason to follow god other than fear of eternal damnation. How does a life of fear and oppression make god a being to follow? In my opinion, I would rather live a glad life of knowledge and success than being oppressed by fear of damnation. Maybe I don't care if I go to hell. Maybe I'd rather live my life happily and try to accomplish something rather than waiting for god to bring me to heaven. It seems to me like most christian followers share the same fear of death, and it seems very pathetic. Sometimes I look visions, sometimes I look things I can't explain, Maybe that is god telling me something. But it doesn't change the fact that I would rather live my life free and happily. It just seems like the god that everyone worships seems quite cruel to be so discriminant against his possess creation. Is there another god that creates other people who don't believe in the real god, and the real god only accepts the people he created to adore him? Surely a god would know everything and would know how a humans brain would work toward his whole life. A god should be able to look into the future before he has any actions. I don't know, maybe that's not the case. You tell me how that works.

Open Question: If you witness a robbery, is it legal to shoot the robbers?

Say you're in a pretty, open deli / store, like a Panera Bread, maybe with a single freestanding wall partially obscuring view in an otherwise open, big room (with a purchase counter, tables, booths, etc) and you look a several armed robbers enter and rob the cashier at gunpoint. They are every armed, and their success would appear likely. If you were legally carrying a handgun/other tiny gun and had a clear shot at every the robbers' heads (thus disabling them every at once, preventing a shootout etc or any nice of retaliation/hostage taking) and the relevant speed and accuracy to ensure instant action, would it be legal to take the shot? What are the laws on this? is policy nationwide, or are there state exceptions? Note that You yourself are not getting robbed, although your safety is perhaps threatened.

Open Question: What word comes to mind when you hear Liberals now plan a Rally on 10/2 in response to Glen Becks 8/28 rally?

What word comes to mind when you hear that Liberals now plan a "me too" rally after Glen Beck's Restoring Honor rally on 8/28? Most of the press bickering has been about the size of and make of the Beck rally with no mention of the millions it raised for a college fund for the kids of our fallen heroes in special forces. Nor do they mention the absolute cleanliness of the mall after the rally. Some even refer to it as "mainly white" crowd. This is despite the fact that when they have eco rallies and other liberal cause rallies they don't tend to point out that those are "mainly white" as well. The Liberals have attacked the size of the Crowd which may have been one of the most photographed crowds for size. Glen Beck hired 6 photographers and got aerial views and puts the size of his crowd at 500,000 - half million. Now CBS news says it hired someone and they put the crowd size at 87,000. Add to this some MSNBC commentators claims that 80,000 mill through the mall on an average Saturday morning. Another MSNBC commentator went on to claim he could receive 300.000 to show up at the mall anytime. Now suddenly the Liberals have united bring AFL-CIO union and several other unions, along with NAACP, Tides Foundation, and other Liberal Organizations and they have thrown together their possess rally for 10/2. I JUST WANT TO KNOW - WHAT WORD COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU HEAR THAT LIBERALS IN AMERICA HAVE DECIDED TO toss A "ME TOO" RALLY AFTER SEEING THE SIZE AND SUCCESS OF GLEN BECK'S RALLY??? http://www.strategypage.com/militaryforums/89-82159.aspx http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/news/2010/8/30/glen_beck_rally_size_disputed.htm http://dailycaller.com/2010/09/01/labor-and-liberal-groups-to-hold-oct-2-rally-on-mall-to-counter-beck-tea-party/

Open Question: Getting into Accelerated BSN Program with Low (2.95) GPA?

Hello! Here is my situation: I am a student at the University of Maryland finishing up my undergraduate in Psychology and Pre-Nursing, who is looking for accelerated BSN programs on the east coast. For my first three years I studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which was extremely challenging and is now reflected in my low GPA, a 2.95. In the basic Nursing prerequisite courses I have at least a 3.5 GPA, and in my last year and a half I have a 3.3 GPA, but my previous science courses has made my cumulative less than appealing. I have about two years of volunteer experience in a hospital, I'm certified and practicing as a CNA, and previously worked at a very intense unit at Johns Hopkins. I feel confident in my resume EXCEPT for the GPA which I feel is going to haunt me through every my nursing applications. And my questions: - How many nursing schools should I apply to? - How strongly do accel. BSN programs weigh experience? - What programs would you suggest I apply to? (Preferably on the east coast) - What can I do to make myself a more appealing candidate? - Do you have any success stories that might be helpful? How (and where) did you receive in with a similar GPA? Extra information: I would really prefer a BSN program, instead of the RN-BSN route, because I would eventually like to pursue an MSN. Thank you!

Open Question: OK... lets be honest, is the failing US economy a Federal failure or is it a State failure?

Not to say that the President and Congress shouldn't do anything, but I feel like it is more of a failure of the states, as well as being a notable success when towns & cities in states like Pennsylvania start to turn things around. But my state is the state of NY (upstate) and they couldn't do anything right if you paid them to do so, and we have... many many times. Constantly. It's nice that Obama wants to do something but in the end is it counter productive when people like Governor Patterson and the NY Senate and Congress still hold office? And if they didn't hold office, would it even matter? Let's not be biased or partisan. Is the _real problem_ that some people should have shorter term limits? source for this question: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20015546-503544.html Jim, what does that have to do with state economy anywhere? What does that have to do with big business' ruining the economy, wasting money and jobs in places like the Waterfront in any place in America with a coast? And isn't it someone's job in the state governments to look after that sort of thing? Being partisan at this point is low and immature. Time to grow up and receive back to reality!

Resolved Question: HDMI or VGA to Component?

SHORT VERSION: I Need a HDMI to Component converter OR a VGA to Component converter. does such a thing exist, if so where? I will lend some specific details, to give you guys a proper background on what I am trying to accomplish. I have a Hauppauge HD PVR, and a Viewsconic VX2260mw Monitor. The HD PVR is a capture card which accepts component cables only, and captures in 720p. My monitor supports 1080p, VGA and HDMI. I have been playing my xbox on this monitor on 1080p via HDMI for approximately a year now. Typically, for one to use this set up, you have your xbox component cables run to the HD PVR, the output from the PVR into a Component to VGA converter, and run the VGA to your monitor. Many people have had success with this, and this is the obvious way of making this situation as possibility. The problem with this is, the HD PVR only outputs in 720p and 1080i (I will only use 720p as that is what you would use to game) so I am forced to play in 720p rather than 1080p. I was thinking and realized a way around this would be quite simple (in theory). I would have my xbox terminate to VGA or HDMI instead of the classic Component cables. From there I would split the VGA / HDMI. Split (1) would run to my monitor, and would allow me to continue playing in 1080p, and Split (2) would run to my HD PVR. The problem is obviously the HD PVR does not support VGA or HDMI, only component, therefor I would need a HDMI to Component converter or VGA to Component converter (ONLY NEED VIDEO - AUDIO IS NOT RELEVANT). Any insight to my situation would be greatly appreciated, as after days of research this is my final question.

Open Question: WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOCIETY?

You go to school to go to school to receive a job to make money. every the world cares about is money! People judge: your success on income your patriotism on taxes your home life by the size of your home your personality by how much you spend on clothes every this and more...why!?!?!?!? I would rather go to school, to learn, to be a good human being, to make a difference. Today's modern society just revolves around taking the next step up in your career. School is so narrowed towards towards just memorizing facts for college there is no learning (anyone wonder why the new generation is stupid?). The result of no learning is that people do not grow up so that the idiot "gangster" in the back of the class is the idiot "gangster" making you quick food. I'm just so mad how the world can be so greedy!

Open Question: Problems With My Newly Built Patio?

I just built a patio with cement pavers and builders sand. I followed the directions I found online and from looks alone, it's a success. But, the sand in between the pavers will not settle. I have to sweep and blow off the patio almost daily and within a few hours there's sand stirred up everywhere. I've bought more sand and swept it into the spaces but it just sits there very loose. Why won't it settle? It's like I have a big sandy mess. I've not bothered to buy any patio furniture because it's not very pleasant being in a mess. Please tell me what I can do to fix this. Thanks

Open Question: Is the "economic recovery" we keep hearing about actually a college bubble?

http://www.economist.com/node/16941775 FIFTY years ago, in the glorious age of three-martini lunches and every-smoking offices, America’s car companies were universally admired. Everybody wanted to know the secrets of their success. How did they churn out dazzling new models every year? How did they manage so many people so successfully (General Motors was then the biggest private-sector employer in the world)? And how did they keep their customers so glad? Today the world is equally in awe of American universities. They dominate global rankings: on the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy’s list of the world’s best universities, 17 of the top 20 are American, and 35 of the top 50. They employ 70% of living Nobel prizewinners in science and economics and produce a disproportionate share of the world’s most-cited articles in academic journals. Everyone wants to know their secret recipe. Which raises a mischievous question. Could America’s universities go the way of its car companies? On the face of it, this seems highly unlikely. Student enrolments are higher than ever this year, as Americans who cannot find jobs linger or return to education. Cambridge, Massachusetts, shows no outward sign of becoming Detroit. Yet there are serious questions about America’s ivory towers. Two right-wing think-tanks, the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and the Goldwater Institute, have both produced damning reports about America’s university system. Two left-wing academics, Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus, have published an even more damning book: “Higher Education? How Colleges are Wasting Our Money and Failing Our Kids and What We Can Do About It”. And US News & World Report, a centrist magazine, says in its annual survey of American colleges that: “If colleges were businesses, they would be ripe for hostile takeovers, complete with serious cost-cutting and painful reorganisations.” College fees have for decades risen faster than Americans’ ability to pay them. Median household income has grown by a factor of 6.5 in the past 40 years, but the cost of attending a state college has increased by a factor of 15 for in-state students and 24 for out-of-state students. The cost of attending a private college has increased by a factor of more than 13 (a year in the Ivy League will set you back $38,000, excluding bed and board). Academic inflation makes medical inflation look modest by comparison. As costs soar, diligence is tumbling. In 1961 full-time students in four-year colleges spent 24 hours a week studying; that has fallen to 14, estimates the AEI. Drop-out and deferment rates are also hair-curling: only 40% of students graduate in four years. The most plausible explanation is that professors are not particularly interested in students’ welfare. Promotion and tenure depend on published research, not good teaching. Professors strike an implicit bargain with their students: we will give you light workloads and inflated grades so long as you leave us alone to do our research. Mr Hacker and Ms Dreifus point out that senior professors in Ivy League universities now receive sabbaticals every third year rather than every seventh. This year 20 of Harvard’s 48 history professors will be on leave. America’s commitment to research is one of the glories of its higher-education system. But for how long? The supply of papers that apply gender theory to literary criticism remains ample. But there is evidence of diminishing returns in an area perhaps more vital to the country’s economic dynamism: science and technology. The Kauffman Foundation, which studies entrepreneurship, argues that the productivity of federal funding for R&D, in terms of patents and licences, has been falling for some years. Funding is spread too thinly. It would yield better results if concentrated on centres of excellence, but fashionable chatter about the “knowledge economy” stirs every congressional backwoodsman to stick his fingers into the university pie. The Goldwater Institute points to a third poison to add to rising prices and declining productivity: administrative bloat. Between 1993 and 2007 spending on university bureaucrats at America’s 198 leading universities rose much faster than spending on teaching faculty. Administration costs at elite private universities rose even faster than at public ones. For example, Harvard increased its administrative spending per student by 300%. In some universities, such as Arizona State University, almost half the full-time employees are administrators. Nearly every university presidents conduct themselves like corporate titans, with salaries, perks and entourages to match.

Open Question: Military Waivers, the Lautenberg Amendment, Recruiting?

Here's the plain facts. Hopefully this will be answered by somebody(s) in the know. Perhaps someone from military recruiting... Or someone with valid experience. Here's the facts (devoid of the usual, "it was the cop", "it was someone else's fault" and bologna to that effect)... 5 years ago I was charged with DV. Was offered a deal I couldn't refuse, plead guilty to disorderly person, in 5 years (per my lawyer-stay good, as I was prior to-no runs ins with police before or since) there's a VERY good chance to have it expunged. Seemed much more affordable in the long run than fighting. Especially after being advised by my attorney (in Michigan) that it (DV) WILL be prosecuted, it HAS to be, by state law, to the end. No exceptions... except...The reason for the offer was a shaky prosecutors case. Nonetheless, I took the deal and do not regret it. The reason for the charge was in fact a domestic dispute. No injuries, no weapons, no hitting, kicking, no threats-we were both however wrestling with each other. No debate there. In every reality, people have been nailed to the cross for much less in DV cases, and guys that deserved much more have gotten away with it. (Re: Offer I couldn't refuse, alternative, I couldn't afford). It was a bad time and situation, but we have been together ever since (married w/kids, NEVER another incident-EVER). Was simply a bad time for both of us, and we've moved on and grown together (not that that is pertinent, just wanted to receive that out there). So, I finally made the big decision and went to the recruiting middle. During the initial Q&A I disclosed my record for disorderly person. It guide to further conversation, and the original charge was disclosed. (I made no attempt to be deceptive about it, I knew it would likely arrive up anyhow). The recruiter was a complete professional, and sensitive to the situation and lowered her voice as not to embarrass me by others being able to hear the conversation. Obviously she recognized the stigma attached to this issue. Anyway, I was then told (professionally) that there was nothing she could do. I was, below current standards, disqualified and there was nothing she could do. Due to the Lautenberg Amendment (Act). I was quite stunned, seeing as only a week ago cable news did a profile on every the gang bangers that were granted waivers in years recent past, and how the military is diligently trying to weed them every out-but having little success due to many having a code of silence. Moving on... I thanked the recruiter, and left-pretty dejected. Now I know I am not subject to the flame arms restrictions below the Lautenberg Amendment-I was not convicted of domestic violence, and I have since legally purchased hunting rifles-with every applicable background checks. (Form 4473 etc). "Clean as a whistle", as it were. Now I also fully recognize that the military is not a revolving door employer, subject the to same rules as other employers, so I hear ya there if that's what you want to tell me. I know a charge of something big is equal to actually having been convicted. Just to receive that out there too... So, hopefully I've given the full picture... Here's my issue. I understood what the recruiter said, but just for my possess piece of mind (based on something she alluded to, visa-ve, "two years ago I may had been able to receive you a waiver. Check back in a year)... I thought that was odd-because I was leaving with the notion that this was a done deal. Fate sealed. So I started calling recruiters in other states and telling them the full story of my specific situation. I called Army, Marines and Navy (no Air Force, nothing personal, just easier to find the others). I would say 60% told me the, to varying degrees, same thing as the one I went to in person. The other 40%.... VERY different story. One Navy recruiter two states over (not throwing anyone below the bus with this post) said quote, "Oh, no. You've been misinformed (tld him it was simply a pal that told me I was disqualified) you' need to request a waver. You weren't convicted of DV, and you are not disqualified from gun ownership or possession-there is no guarantee, but you are not automatically disqualified. That would be subject to approval from higher up". I look a lot of posts on here about very specific situations, but like my experience today, none have been able to answer my question. And neither did calling around to different recruiters in different regions. The closest I can assess from memory was 60% said "disqualified automatically", 40% said "not automatically disqualified". Generally, I would say majority rules, but, you've got to understand how disappointing this experience of not even getting my foot in the door was, then recieving mixed messages. Any experienced feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. The "conviction" (disorderly person, is approaching 5 years. My attorney was obviously careful to say, "may be able too", As for firearms, I have made three fully legal, from federally licensed dealers in the past 4 years. Most recently, 4 months ago. Mossberg short barrel. No issues whatsoever. So, obviously there even more mystery at the root of this every. Because before today, I'd never heard of this amendment. And I most certainly would have when I purchased a firearm months after my conviction on DP. I had it explained on another forum that even if it was expunged, the charge will still be found by the military-BUT one guy telling me ask for a moral waiver, another saying "you're done until they receive desperate again". And the wheels on the bus... Thanks for your answers so far guy, sincerely appreciated from a total stranger.

Open Question: Potty training: How do you transition from naked/bottomless to underwear?

We just started potty training my son (33 months) and decided to go the route of underwear with timed trips to the potty. I know there are bound to be accidents at the start but he seems to be having A LOT! He did go in the potty his very first morning after waking and then once after dinner (milk) the first day. Then again the next morning after waking. And we got the timing right one more time that day for a second successful potty. Otherwise they've every been accidents - basically around 10 a day. This morning he had his night time diaper on for too long so he didn't even the successful morning potty. We just had an accident EXACTLY as the timer went off. I KNOW he is treating the underwear as diapers. Yes, he says "uh oh" after he pees when he realizes he is wet. But from the way he acts, it's an after thought. When we put his night time diaper on, he doesn't act like that is any different than the underwear that he is wearing during the day. I don't think he is really understanding any difference between wearing big boy underwear and wearing diapers. And he doesn't have any older siblings and no cousins who are around enough who can "model" that for him. His dad is a farmer so he works long hours this time of year. I think there is something he is not totally understanding to really start the process. I have contemplated just taking a tiny break and coming back to it. But I've also contemplated just having him go naked. I know people have had LOTS of success with this. But most of those people also say that once they try to put underwear on their child, they almost go 2 steps backwards. So for those of you who had success with naked training, how did you transition to underwear? Or was it just a struggle? And would this be a good idea for me? Or should we just take a break?
